About the Client

Milk the Sun GmbH is Europe's leading online marketplace for the trade and acquisition of photovoltaic systems and solar energy assets. The platform connects buyers and sellers of existing PV installations across Germany and Europe, facilitating the secondary market for renewable energy infrastructure.

TL;DR Results

Full platform relaunch with multilingual support across 5 languages

Modern Drupal + Symfony architecture enabling complex marketplace functionality

Improved user experience driving higher engagement from European solar investors

Scalable API layer supporting integration with external data sources and valuation tools

Challenge

Milk the Sun operates one of Europe's leading online marketplaces for photovoltaic systems. The platform connects buyers and sellers, covering the entire lifecycle of a PV system — from initial information through trading to document management. With growing international business, the old platform reached its limits.

The task was clear: a complete relaunch of milkthesun.com with a fundamental visual overhaul and expanded infrastructure, information provision, and automated data exchange capabilities — all in 5 languages for European markets.

Our Services

We planned, conceptualised, and developed a comprehensive online portal on the Drupal CMS:

  • Frontend & Content Management: Drupal-based with custom module development
  • Backend API: Symfony PHP framework for all business processes
  • Multilingual Architecture: Full support for 5 European languages
  • User Management: Personalised cockpit areas for buyers and sellers
  • Hosting Infrastructure: Separate test and staging instances for independent country-specific releases
  • SEO & Content Marketing: Country-specific WordPress blogs in all 5 languages

Solution

The architecture combines Drupal for frontend and content management with a robust Symfony backend API. All business processes run through the self-developed API: system search with extensive filters, creation and management of new PV systems, sophisticated user management with personalised dashboards, and comprehensive document handling.

Custom Drupal modules were developed to map the complex marketplace requirements. An extensive information section about photovoltaics and an automated newsletter system complete the offering.

Result

A scalable, multilingual marketplace that has been successfully operational since 2015 and is continuously developed. The platform enables efficient cross-border trading of photovoltaic systems, contributing to the energy transition.

Let's build something remarkable.

You have a vision. We have the team to make it real.
Tell us what you're building — we'll tell you exactly how to make it exceptional.

Why serious companies choose us.

15 years. 100+ projects. Award-winning work.

The people who pitch are the people who build.

No layers, no handoffs, no revolving door of faces. The developers and designers you meet at the start are the same ones shipping your product at the end.

We've been the client too.

We build our own software products. We know the frustration of missed deadlines and vague updates — so we built our process to be the agency we always wished existed.

15 years of pattern recognition.

We know which technologies age well, which don't, and which were just hype. That judgment — earned the hard way — protects your budget and your roadmap.

You'll always know where things stand.

Weekly updates, clear milestones, no surprises. If something changes, you hear it from us first — not when the deadline passes.

Your code. Your freedom.

No proprietary systems, no lock-in. We build on open source and hand over full ownership. Change agencies tomorrow if you want. (You won't want to.)

Good enough is not in our vocabulary.

Internal reviews, design critiques, QA loops — before anything reaches you. We only ship things we're proud to put our name on.
